part 1. warm up Mime training for performers
Anastasiia Liubchenko graduated from both Dutch and Ukrainian Mime schools and in her training she combines exercises from both cultures. The Ukrainian has more classical physical precision and the Dutch more abstract mime.

The main focus of this training are movement qualities and full awareness of the performer’s own body and his/her surroundings. A performer that is not pretending but is really being on stage right here and now.

part 2. creating a visual mime performance
We talk about how Anastasiia approaches her work as a director. Being a visual artist and theater maker gives her a different entrance for creating her performances. Starting a lot of times from visual ideas and getting to the floor with visual assignments. During the workshop we will do a few exercises based on this method. We are looking at the performer as a creator. The movement, improvisation and position in space creates a situation that leads to dramaturgy.

Anastasiia Liubchenko
Ukrainian/Dutch theatermaker, painter, mime actress and founder, artistic leader and director of Mime Wave and Mime Wave Festival, co-creator of studio Mime fabriek(Amsterdam). She is from Kyiv (Ukraine) and has been living and working in Amsterdam since 2010.

Mime Wave started in 2010 with the goals of creating theater production, international exchange and education, and focusing on international collaboration (especially between Ukraine and The Netherlands).

Mime Wave projects:
2021-2023 – directed her solo performance Home (Thuis in Dutch) for kids
2+. Touring in The Netherlands and Belgium.
2019-2023 – directed performance Yellow (Geel in Dutch) for kids 2+. Touring in The Netherlands and Belgium.
2018 /2019 – establishing Mime Wave Festival – international festival of physical theater in Kyiv, Ukraine. Online edition MWF during Covid in 2021.
2016, 2019 – Metamorphosis director / visual artist / producer / production manager. Performed in Poland, Ukraine and The Netherlands. Supported by Europe by People (The Netherlands), ECF Step beyond travel grant, Centrum Kutury in Lublin (Poland) and grant Teple Misto (IvanoFrankivsk,Ukraine).

Del 1 Uppvärmning för mimare
Anastasiia Liubchenko är utexaminerad från både holländska och ukrainska högskolor med inriktning mim. I sin träning kombinerar hon övningar från båda dessa kulturer. Den ukrainska traditionen fokuserar mer på fysisk precision medan den holländska traditionen har mimens abstraktion som startpunkt. Huvudfokus för denna träning är rörelsens egenskaper och full medvetenhet om utövarens egen kropp och hans/hennes omgivning. En artist som inte låtsas men som verkligen står på scenen här och nu.

Del 2 Skapa en visuell mimföreställning
Vi pratar om hur Anastasiia ställer sig till sitt arbete som regissör. Att vara bildkonstnär och teaterskapare ger henne en annan ingång för att skapa sina föreställningar. Hon utgår många gånger från visuella idéer och kommer till golvet med visuella uppdrag. Under workshopen kommer vi att göra några övningar utifrån denna metod. Vi ser på artisten som en kreatör. Rörelsen, improvisationen och positionen i rummet skapar en situation som leder till dramaturgi.
