“For the first time in the subject of mime acting, these third-semester mime students have taken on the challenge of adapting a written text into physical theatre. Working in three collaborative ensembles, they have investigated the core questions of translation from page to stage: How is a narrative distilled into a physical score? What visual and physical aesthetics does the story demand, and how is its unique dramaturgy embodied? What you see today is a work-in-progress—the raw, collaborative result of a four-week intensive journey into the intersection of text and movement.”

” Under sin tredje termin möter mimstudenterna utmaningen att omvandla en skriven text till fysisk teater. I tre samarbetsgrupper har de utforskat de centrala frågorna kring översättningen från papper till scen: Hur destilleras en berättelse till ett fysiskt partitur? Vilken visuell och fysisk estetik kräver berättelsen, och hur förkroppsligas dess unika dramaturgi? Det ni ser idag är ett pågående arbete – det råa, gemensamma resultatet av en fyra veckor lång intensiv resa in i skärningspunkten mellan text och rörelse.”

Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) provides education and conducts research in circus, dance, film, media, opera, and theatre. Through pioneering education and research we create conditions for the arts as dynamic, challenging and independent forces in society. SKH’s students, doctoral students, teachers and researchers together contribute to a university environment that dives deeply into specific art practices while encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration.

In the Bachelor’s Programme in Mime Acting, the student develops tools for its artistic practice. They will be working independently as well as with collective creation. Practice is interwoven with theory in the form of analysis, discussion and reflection. The core of the education follows the parameters created by Stanislaw Brosowski in 1974, when he created the education; mime training, based on the polish branch of Henryk Tomaszewski, is the education’s groove, where various supporting movement and acting practices aid for the student’s development of the awareness of its body and the other bodies in the room. They develop a capacity to visualize, express and embody thoughts and feelings. There are also courses where they can relate their own artistic practice to a historical, artistic and socio-political context.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mime Acting also opens up the possibility to continue further studies, for instance in a Master’s programme.
