BONHEUR means happiness in French.

The physical theatre company Coliberté embarks on a quest, visual through movement and sonic through live sound effects, to better understand the pursuit of the so-called “happiness”. Both funny and unsettling, it challenges the myth of a consumerist society supposed to create happiness. Through a grotesque style, it portrays our “inhuman” and absurd world, revealing its true humanity and poetic beauty. “The so-called ‘normal’ people have brought the world to the brink of disaster.” says Andreï Tarkovsky in Nostalghia. What is normality? What is Happiness? What is humanity?

With BONHEUR, Coliberté questions the urge of consumerism, human cruelty and the craving for the so-called “happiness”. With its inventiveness and relevance as well as its physical precision, without words, but with movements, rhythms and sounds, Bonheur hits the mark in a tragic-comic way.

Coliberté is an international theatre company whose artists come from Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco and Norway.
The company develops original creations that place the body, movement, space and sound at the centre of the theatrical experience. Its work explores contemporary society, questioning notions of normality, human absurdity, consumerism and art, through a rough, poetic and long research-based approach..
Moving freely between physical theatre, contemporary performance and visual storytelling, Coliberté creates shows that seek to engage audiences across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Its production BONHEUR has been presented in France, Morocco, Italy and Norway, and has recently been selected for festivals in Switzerland and Germany.

Inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s question of normality, Coliberté explores the excesses and contradictions of contemporary society. Bringing together artists from Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco and Norway, the company develops a transnational theatrical language rooted in the body, movement, space and sound. Their work questions a world driven by consumption, where norms shape our lives and relationships. Words are used only when essential; instead, Coliberté seeks to tell human stories through physicality, rhythm and sensory experience, creating performances that travel across languages, cultures and borders.
